Vienna is linked with Bratislava by fast catamaran: the Twin City Liner runs downstream to the Slovak capital and back again. Up to 6 ships leave each day, and the trip takes about 1.25 hours. That makes the route over the water a serious alternative to the train and the bus between the two cities.

Getting there and the terminal

The berth is called Schiffstation Wien City and lies at Franz-Josefs-Kai 2 by Schwedenplatz, 1010 Vienna, right on the Danube Canal between the Marienbrücke and the Schwedenbrücke. This is a rare case: the ferry berth is not on the edge of the city but in the Innere Stadt, a few steps from the Ring. From Schwedenplatz you can walk to St Stephen's Cathedral.

Check-in

Boarding starts half an hour before departure. You have to carry a valid travel document: for EU citizens a passport or an identity card that proves citizenship. Travellers from non-EU countries should check the entry requirements with their consulate in advance. Even though Austria and Slovakia are both in the Schengen area, the document is required when you board.
