City port

Downtown Ferry Terminal, Quay Street (Fullers360) und 56 Hamer Street, Wynyard Quarter (Sealink NZ)

The ferry port of Auckland lies on Waitematā Harbour, directly in front of the city centre, and is the starting point for the Hauraki Gulf. From here you can reach 3 destinations: Rangitoto in 30 minutes, Waiheke in 45 minutes and Great Barrier Island in 4 hours. Waiheke carries almost all of the traffic on its own, and together the services add up to as many as 57 departures a day. The port is served by Fullers360 and Sealink NZ.

Getting there and the terminal

The Fullers360 passenger ferries leave from the Downtown Ferry Terminal on Quay Street, whose berths are numbered from Pier 1 to Pier 14. Sealink NZ, by contrast, works from its own terminal: 56 Hamer Street in the Wynyard Quarter, around 15 minutes' walk from Britomart station, with bus stops two minutes away. There is no parking at this terminal, so you are better off without your own vehicle.

Check-in

For the booked sailings to Rangitoto you should be at the terminal 30 minutes before departure, and boarding closes 15 minutes before departure. On the open Waiheke route, Fullers360 recommends an hour in high season and on public holidays. With Sealink NZ to Great Barrier Island the rule is: 60 minutes before departure with a vehicle, 30 minutes on foot.
