Barcelona ferry port is in Catalonia and is the main Spanish departure point for crossings to the Balearics. From here you can reach 13 destinations, among them Ibiza, Palma and Alcudia, plus Ciutadella and Mahon on Menorca, Civitavecchia, Genoa and Porto Torres in Italy as well as the North African ports of Algiers, Oran and Nador. Together the services add up to as many as 40 departures a day, and crossings take between 5.5 and 30.75 hours. The port is served by Balearia, Grandi Navi Veloci, Grimaldi Lines and Trasmed.
Getting there and the terminal
The port has three ferry terminals: F1 for Balearia with the Balearic routes, the international F2 for Trasmed, Grandi Navi Veloci and Balearia, and F3 for Grimaldi Lines. Grandi Navi Veloci gives its address as Moll de Sant Bertran 3 in the Sants-Montjuïc district, while Grimaldi Lines handles departures at Moll de la Costa. By car you come in on the Ronda Litoral: Grimaldi names exit 21 Ciutat Vella and from there the road towards Montjuïc to Moll de la Costa, and Grandi Navi Veloci points to the B-10 and the Ronda Litoral. By metro, travel to Drassanes (L3) or Paral·lel (L2 and L3), then take bus 88 to the Moll Costa stop directly in front of the Grimaldi terminal. For parking, the port authority recommends the car park at the World Trade Center on Moll de Barcelona.
Check-in
Grimaldi Lines wants two hours' lead time for the Italian routes and three for Tangier; boarding ends 60 minutes before departure. Grandi Navi Veloci states two hours for domestic sailings with check-in closing 30 minutes before departure, and four hours for international sailings with check-in closing 60 minutes before. Go by the strictest figure, so four hours before a crossing to North Africa.
