Ferries to Spain

Spain has a wide range of ferry connections linking the country with its islands and with many other countries.

The directory lists 48 ferry ports and 152 ferry routes for Spain. The ports fall into two cruising areas: the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean. Most connections run through Barcelona, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Santa Cruz de La Palma. From these ports, ferries sail to Morocco, Algeria and Italy, and to three other countries. A total of 123 routes run within the country itself. Balearia, Naviera Armas, Fred Olsen Express and 19 other operators sail these routes.

Several operators sail from Ceuta to Algeciras several times a day, and the crossing takes around an hour.

Ferries to Cies Islands

The Cies Islands are an uninhabited archipelago off the Galician coast near Vigo and belong to the Islas Atlánticas national park. The ferry berth on the main island, Monteagudo, is the only way into the archipelago and is served regularly in the summer months by passenger ferries from Vigo, Cangas and Baiona.

The ferry port of Formentera is at La Savina in the north of the Balearic island and is the island's only link with the outside world, because Formentera has no airport. Ferries run from here to Ibiza, Mallorca and the Spanish mainland, with the route to Ibiza, at around 30 minutes' crossing time, the shortest and the most used.

Las Palmas is the most important ferry port on Gran Canaria, the largest city of the Canary Islands in the Atlantic west of the Moroccan coast. The ferry port of Lobos is on this small island north-east of Fuerteventura, named after the monk seals that once lived there. Naviera Nortour links Lobos daily with Corralejo on Fuerteventura, a crossing of only 15 minutes. A visitor permit is required.

The ferry port of Playa Blanca sits at the south-western tip of the island of Lanzarote and, with an average of 24 departures a day, is the island's busiest port. Ferries run from here to Corralejo on Fuerteventura several times a day, and the crossing takes about 25 minutes.

Playa Santiago lies on the south coast of the Canary Island of La Gomera and belongs to the municipality of Alajeró. The harbour links the fishing village several times a week with the island's other ports, San Sebastián de la Gomera and Valle Gran Rey.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is on the Canary island of Tenerife, about 210 kilometres off the north-west African coast, and is the centre of inter-island traffic in the Canaries. The port links Tenerife by ferry with the Spanish mainland and with the other Canary Islands such as Gran Canaria, La Palma, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

Santa Pola is a port town on the Costa Blanca in Spain and the main departure point for ferries to the island of Tabarca. Several operators such as Transtabarca run regular sailings (a 15-25 minute crossing). The island is a marine nature reserve.
