- Stewart Island Experience Visitor Terminal, 21 Foreshore Road, Bluff
Bluff ferry port lies at the southern tip of New Zealand's South Island. From here you can reach Oban on Stewart Island. The timetable lists up to 6 departures a day and the crossing takes around an hour. The port is served by Stewart Island Experience.
Getting there and the terminal
The place to go is the visitor terminal at 21 Foreshore Road in Bluff. The operator's car park is right beside it, open to cars, motorhomes, motorcycles, bicycles, boat trailers and coaches. It works like an airport car park: you take a ticket on the way in and pay on the way out. A space cannot be booked in advance, so it is better to arrive with a little time in hand.
Without your own car you take the operator's shuttle bus from Invercargill. It is timed to the sailings and picks you up at accommodation in Invercargill, at the airport and in the town centre.
Check-in
Be at the terminal 30 minutes before the scheduled departure so that your luggage can be processed. Check-in and the boarding gate close 10 minutes before departure (Stewart Island Experience). Arrive later and you do not travel.
