Location
Dublin, County Dublin

The ferry port of Dublin lies at the mouth of the Liffey around five kilometres east of the city centre and is Ireland's most important ferry port. From here you can reach Holyhead, Cherbourg and Douglas. Together the services add up to as many as 20 departures a day. Crossings take between 3.5 and 19 hours. The port is served by Irish Ferries, Steam Packet and Stena Line.

Getting there and the terminal

The terminals lie next to each other on Alexandra Road in the port area: Stena Line checks in at Terminal 2 (Alexandra Road, Dublin D01 WD28), Irish Ferries at the Ferryport on the same street. By car you reach the port area via the M50 and M1 and the tolled Port Tunnel, and the access road is signposted. Because of building work, Alexandra Road is closed to port traffic until autumn 2026 and access runs via Promenade Road. There is no rail connection: the Luas stop The Point is opposite the port entrance, but from there it is a good three kilometres on foot. Buses 53 and 53b stop in front of the Irish Ferries terminal, and Stena Line runs its own feeder service to Connolly Station and Heuston Station. Short-stay parking is directly in front of the terminals and long-stay parking beside it, both chargeable.

Check-in

At Stena Line, check-in in Dublin closes 30 minutes before departure for vehicles and 40 minutes before departure for foot passengers. Irish Ferries also requires 30 minutes for Holyhead, but a full hour for Cherbourg, and two hours if you are travelling with a pet.
