- Tryphena (zweiter Inselanleger: Port Fitzroy)
The ferry port of Great Barrier lies on Great Barrier Island off the coast of Auckland in New Zealand. From here you reach Auckland on the mainland. Up to 4 departures a day are available, but sailings are not daily: they run on two or three days a week. The crossing takes around 4 hours. The port is served by Sealink NZ.
Getting there and the terminal
The island has two berths, and the name on your ticket decides which one you use: Sealink runs Tryphena and Port Fitzroy as separate terminals with their own times. There is also more than one starting point on the mainland. The operator's terminal list names Auckland City on Hamer Street and Half Moon Bay in the east of the city. If you are bringing a vehicle, be aware that loading onto the ships to Great Barrier Island is done in reverse. The operator points this out explicitly and offers to have the crew guide you on.
Check-in
For Tryphena, Sealink asks for 60 minutes of lead time with a vehicle and 30 minutes on foot. Heavy and unaccompanied vehicles also have to be there 60 minutes beforehand. The second deadline is the decisive one, though: boarding closes 20 minutes before departure for vehicles and 15 minutes before departure for foot passengers. After that the operator reserves the right to refuse carriage.
