- Hakodate Ferry Terminal, Minatocho 3-19-2
Hakodate ferry port is in Japan. From here you can reach Aomori and Oma. Together the services run up to 16 departures a day. Crossings take between 1.5 and 3.75 hours. The port is served by Tsugarukaikyo Ferry.
Getting there and the terminal
The terminal stands in the Minatocho district at number 3-19-2, a fair way outside the old town. From JR Hakodate station or Goryokaku station it is 15 to 20 minutes by taxi, and around 40 minutes from Hakodate airport. City bus lines 16 and 16A via Goryokaku stop right in front of the terminal; from Nanaehama station on the Donan Isaribi line it is about a 20-minute walk. There is also a shuttle bus from stand 11 at JR Hakodate station, taking around 30 minutes. If you arrive by car, there are two car parks at the terminal: the first two hours are free, the second car park is meant for longer stays, and spaces there are tight.
Check-in
The desks open about 90 minutes before departure for Aomori and about 60 minutes for Oma, rising to 90 minutes there too in summer. Tsugarukaikyo Ferry requires check-in to be complete 40 minutes before departure, and 70 minutes between 20 July and 20 August; otherwise your booking may lapse. On ships with a passenger bridge, foot passengers go to the boarding point on the third floor no later than 15 minutes before departure.
