Inisheer, the smallest of the three Aran Islands, lies off the coast of County Galway. From here you can reach Rossaveel in Connemara and the docks of Galway City. Together the routes add up to as many as 8 departures a day, and crossings take between one hour and 2 hours. The berth is served by Aran Island Ferries.
Getting there and the terminal
The berth on Inisheer is beside the island's main village, which stretches along a long white sandy beach: shops, accommodation and pubs are all within walking distance of the quay. On the mainland, the departure port of Rossaveel lies about an hour's drive west of Galway. Aran Island Ferries runs its own shuttle bus there, leaving Galway from Queen Street near Eyre Square and taking about an hour. If you come by car, you leave it in Rossaveel: there is a car park at the pier, and a second one opens in high season. You cannot take your vehicle across to the island.
Check-in
Aran Island Ferries asks those driving to Rossaveel to be at the berth 30 minutes before departure. If you book the shuttle bus as well, the requirement moves considerably earlier: you should then be at the bus stop 90 minutes before the ship sails, because the bus leaves a full hour before that.
