- Carrownlisheen, County Galway
Inishmaan, the middle one of the three Aran Islands, belongs to County Galway. From here you can reach Rossaveel in Connemara and the docks of Galway City. Together the routes add up to as many as 8 departures a day, and crossings take between 45 minutes and 1.75 hours. The berth is served by Aran Island Ferries.
Getting there and the terminal
The new pier is at the northern end of the island, while the village sits on the sheltered high ground in the middle. Quay and village are therefore two different places here. Accommodation, pubs and cafés are all in the centre and within walking distance of one another; for the trip from the pier there are taxis, though you should book them in advance, because availability varies. On the mainland, Rossaveel lies about an hour's drive west of Galway. Aran Island Ferries runs a shuttle bus there from Queen Street near Eyre Square. There is a car park at Rossaveel pier, and a second one opens in high season. Your car stays there: it does not come to the island.
Check-in
If you drive to Rossaveel yourself, you should be at the berth 30 minutes before departure. With the shuttle bus a much earlier requirement applies: 90 minutes before the ship sails, at the bus stop, because the bus leaves an hour before that.
