Location
Inishmore, County Galway

The ferry port of Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands, is at Kilronan (Cill Rónáin) on Ireland's west coast. From here you can reach Rossaveel in Connemara and Galway City Centre. Together the services run up to 18 departures a day. Crossings take between 45 minutes and 1.75 hours. The port is served by Aran Island Ferries.

Getting there and the terminal

On the mainland side, Rossaveel is the year-round departure port, 37 kilometres west of Galway city centre in Connemara. There is parking at the pier that you do not need to book in advance, and a second area opens in high season. Without a car you take the connecting coach that Aran Island Ferries runs all year from Victoria Place in Galway to the harbour. From Galway City itself, boats leave only seasonally. On Inishmore you land at the pier in Kilronan; the village supermarket is about a ten-minute walk away.

Check-in

If you drive to Rossaveel, you should be ready to board 30 minutes before departure. If you take the connecting coach, the operator asks for 90 minutes before the ferry leaves, which is 30 minutes before the coach departs. Bicycles have to be booked in advance because space on board is tight; Aran Island Ferries does not carry e-bikes or bicycles over 15 kilograms.
