Iriomote Ohara ferry port lies on Iriomote in Japan, at the very south of Okinawa Prefecture. From here you can reach Ishigaki. A ferry leaves up to 12 times a day, and the crossing takes around 45 minutes. The port is served by Yaeyama Kanko Ferry.
Getting there and the terminal
Iriomote has two ferry ports, Ohara and Uehara. Which one is right for you depends on your destination on the island; the municipality lists both as separate points of call. This page means Ohara: the berth belongs to the settlement of Ohara in the Haemi district of the town of Taketomi, Yaeyama County. Besides Yaeyama Kanko Ferry, bookable here, Anei Kanko also serves the port.
The counterpart on the other side is the berth for the outlying islands in the port of Ishigaki, the Rito terminal. From Ishigaki Airport the bus takes around 30 minutes to get there and a taxi about 25 minutes; hire cars are available at the airport too. The town of Taketomi points out explicitly that the time at sea varies with the size of the vessel, the sea state and the wind. In storms sailings are cancelled, so it is worth checking the operator's service notices before you set off for the terminal.
