The ferry port of Izu Oshima is on the island of the same name off the Japanese coast. From here you can reach 6 destinations, among them Tokyo, Atami and Kozushima. Together the services add up to as many as 14 departures a day, and crossings take between 30 minutes and 1.75 hours. The port is served by Tokai Kisen.
Getting there and the terminal
The island has two ferry ports, Motomachi and Okata. Which of the two is used is not settled in advance: Tokai Kisen fixes the island's embarkation and disembarkation port only on the day of travel and publishes it with the day's operating status on its own site. If you would rather not check yourself, ask at your accommodation or at the operator's island office. So plan your route to the port on the morning itself, because the two berths are nowhere near each other.
Local buses run on from the port, among other places to Mihara-yama, to Habu port and to Oshima Park. The hydrofoil needs at least 1 hour 45 minutes to Tokyo Takeshiba and 45 minutes to Atami.
Check-in
For the large passenger ship Tokai Kisen expects you at the counter one hour before departure, and 30 minutes before for the hydrofoil. In summer and during the long holiday weeks the ticket counters are busy, so go earlier.
