- Kametoku-Shinko-Wartehalle, Kametsu 7784, Tokunoshima
The ferry port of Kametoku is on the east coast of Tokunoshima, the second-largest island of the Amami group after Amami-Oshima, and is its gateway to the sea. From here you can reach 6 destinations, among them Kagoshima, Motobu and Naha. Together the services add up to as many as 12 departures a day. Crossings take between 1.75 and 15.25 hours. The port is served by Marue Ferry.
Getting there and the terminal
The terminal building is called the Kametoku Shinko waiting hall and stands at Kametsu 7784, the main settlement of the town of Tokunoshima. The line that calls here is the Kagoshima route, and it runs in this order: Kagoshima, Naze, Kametoku, Wadomari, Yoron, Motobu, Naha. If you arrive after the long crossing from Kagoshima, you will find supermarkets, a clinic with a pharmacy, hotels and several car hire firms around the waiting hall, two of them national chains.
Check-in
Marue Ferry asks both foot passengers and drivers to have completed check-in one hour before the ship leaves. The second deadline is the hard one: ten minutes before departure the boarding bridge and the gangway are withdrawn, and after that nobody gets on board. Bicycles and motorcycles have to be registered separately, so clarify the times for that with the operator in advance.
