The ferry port of Kozushima is on the island of the same name in Japan, in the southern part of the Izu island chain off Tokyo. From here you can reach 5 destinations: the neighbouring islands of Shikinejima in 30 minutes, Niijima in 45 minutes, Toshima in 1.25 hours and Izu Oshima in 1.75 hours, plus Tokyo in 3.75 hours. Together the services add up to as many as 14 departures a day. The port is served by Tokai Kisen.
Getting there and the terminal
At the other end, in Tokyo, the ships for Kozushima leave from the Takeshiba passenger terminal. Two very different vessels run from there: the fast jetfoil by day and the large overnight ship, which takes considerably longer. How many departures there are changes with the season, and in bad weather a sailing can be cancelled altogether. So it is worth looking at the timetable further down before you travel. Between the neighbouring islands of Shikinejima, Niijima, Toshima and Izu Oshima the ships run less often than to and from Tokyo. If you want to work your way along the Izu chain, read the timetable first and book your overnight stays afterwards, not the other way round.
