Krabi Town is on Thailand's Andaman coast, while the destination islands are in the Gulf of Thailand on the other side of the peninsula. From here you can reach Koh Samui, Ko Phangan and Koh Tao. Together the services add up to as many as 35 departures a day. The journeys take between 4.5 and 5.5 hours. The port is served by Lomlahkkhirin, Lomprayah High Speed Ferries, Raja Ferry and Seatran Discovery.
Getting there and the terminal
These services are combined bus-and-ferry tickets, not pure sea crossings. You board a bus in Krabi, cross the peninsula to the Gulf coast and only go aboard the boat there. That explains the journey time of several hours even though the crossing itself is shorter.
There is accordingly no single berth but several pick-up points. Seatran Discovery names, among others, the office in Krabi Town, Krabi airport, hotels in Krabi Town and Ao Nang, Nopparat Thara pier and Klong Jilad pier. Which one applies to you is on your booking, and you should stick to it: Klong Jilad pier is the ferry berth on the water from which the boats leave for the Andaman islands, while the town office is in the centre. Confuse the two and you wait in the wrong place. Check when booking whether you will be collected from your hotel, and be there earlier than stated: the buses pick up at several addresses and do not always keep to the minute.
