The ferry port of Kume-jima lies on Kume Island in Japan. From here you can reach Naha and Tonaki Island. Together the routes add up to as many as 6 departures a day. Crossings take between 1.25 and 3.5 hours. The port is served by Kume Line.

Getting there and the terminal

The berth is called Kanegusuku (兼城港) and so goes by a different name from the island. Its counterpart on Okinawa is Tomari harbour in Naha, not the cruise and freight quay. Allow around three hours for the direct run between Tomari and Kanegusuku; if the ship calls at Tonaki on the way, it becomes about three and a half.

The Kumejima community bus stops in front of the ferry terminal, and the stop carries the name of the harbour. The municipal network has four routes, one of them an airport route, so you can get between the berth and Kumejima airport without a hire car.

If you have no time for the crossing, take the plane instead of the ferry: the flight from Naha to Kumejima takes about 30 minutes and runs six to seven times a day. Cars and bulky luggage, on the other hand, only reach the island by ferry.
