- Passagierwartehalle Hafen Naze (名瀬港 船客待合所), Shiohama-cho 17-2281, Amami
The ferry port of Naze on Amami Oshima is the most important intermediate stop on the long route between Kyushu and Okinawa. From here you can reach six destinations: Kagoshima, Kametoku, Motobu, Naha, Wadomari and Yoron Island. Together the services add up to as many as 12 departures a day, and crossings take between 3.5 and 13.25 hours. The port is served by Marue Ferry.
Getting there and the terminal
The ferries use the passenger waiting hall at Naze port, address Shiohama-cho 17-2281 in the city of Amami. It is 1.5 kilometres from Amami city hall. Beside the terminal is a free surface car park with marked accessible bays. The hall is open from 3:30 to 24:00, in step with the sailing times - the ferry towards Okinawa leaves in the middle of the night.
Check-in
For Naze, Marue Ferry publishes fixed counter hours instead of a deadline in minutes: check-in for Kagoshima runs from 19:30 to 20:50, for Okinawa from 4:30 to 5:20. If you are shipping a vehicle, check-in at the island ports must be completed at least one hour before departure, and you need the vehicle registration document with you. Ten minutes before the ship leaves the gangway is pulled in, and after that boarding is no longer possible.
