Ferries to Onomichi

The ferry port of Onomichi lies on the Seto Inland Sea in Japan. From here you can reach Hiroshima, the Hiroshima Prince Hotel and Kure. Together the services add up to as many as 6 departures a day. Crossings take between 3.5 and 4 hours. The port is served by Setonaikai Kisen.

Getting there and the terminal

The berth belongs to the Onomichi Waterfront Building, which also houses the Green Hill Hotel Onomichi. It is around five minutes on foot from Onomichi station, so the port is in the centre and not on the edge of town. In Onomichi, Setonaikai Kisen ties up at pier number 2.

Check-in

Check-in is in the waiting room on the ground floor of the Onomichi Waterfront Building. You have to be at the pier at least five minutes before departure (Setonaikai Kisen). That is less notice than ferry ports usually ask for, but it leaves no buffer either: the scheduled departure from Onomichi is at 13:45.

It is just as tight at the other end of the route. In Hiroshima you check in on the ground floor of the Ujina Kowan Building and leave from berth 8, with boarding starting ten minutes before departure. In Kure the desk is on the ground floor of the Chuo Pier, the ship leaves from pier 2, and the notice is five minutes. From Kure station it is around seven minutes on foot.
