Ons Island ferry port is in Galicia in Spain. The berth is on the island of A Illa de Ons, which belongs to the municipality of Bueu. From here you can reach Portonovo, Bueu and Vigo. Together the services add up to as many as 40 departures a day. Crossings take between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours. The port is served by Mar de Ons and Naviera Nabia.

Getting there and the terminal

Ons is part of the Illas Atlánticas national park and is its only inhabited island. The boats tie up at the small harbour of O Curro, the only settlement; Praia das Dornas is right beside the quay, and behind it the hamlet with its restaurants climbs the slope. The waymarked paths to the beaches of Area dos Cans, Canexol and Melide and to the lighthouse start at an information board by the harbour entrance. On the mainland the boats leave from Bueu, Portonovo, Sanxenxo, Combarro, Pontevedra, Marín and Vigo, depending on the operator and the season.

Check-in

For Ons you need a visitor permit from the Xunta de Galicia before you buy a ticket. It is required during Holy Week and daily from 15 May to 15 September, and it holds the island to 1,300 admitted visitors a day. You apply online and first receive a provisional code, valid for two hours, with which you book the crossing. The final permit is personal, arrives by email and has to be shown when boarding or on arrival. Mar de Ons recommends being at the counter 30 minutes before departure, because the ticket has to be printed there.
