- Pakbara Pier, Pak Nam / La-ngu, Satun
Pakbara ferry port is on the Andaman coast in southern Thailand and is the gateway to the islands off Satun province. From here you can reach four destinations: Koh Lipe in around an hour and a half by speedboat, Koh Tarutao in half an hour, plus Chean Vanich Pier and, on a long trip with several stops on the way, Phuket airport. Together the services add up to as many as 20 departures a day. Crossings take between 30 minutes and 7.5 hours. The port is served by Bundhaya Speed Boat, Ploysiam Speedboat, Satun Pakbara Speed Boat Club and Tigerline Ferry.
Getting there and the terminal
The pier is at Pak Nam in La-ngu district, not in the provincial capital Satun itself. If you travel from Hat Yai you will usually come by minivan: operators at the pier offer transfers from the hotels in Hat Yai and from the airport, timed to the boats.
Worth knowing for the arrival: Koh Lipe has no fixed berth. The boats stop off the beach, and a longtail boat takes you the last stretch ashore. That transfer is included in the ticket price and you pay nothing extra on the beach. It works the same way on the return to Pakbara: you board the longtail boat from the beach and change onto the speedboat offshore.
