Pelabuhan Boom Baru

The ferry port of Palembang lies on Sumatra in Indonesia. From here you can reach Muntok. Ferries leave up to 2 times a day. The crossing takes around 3 hours. The port is served by Express Bahari.

Getting there and the terminal

The berth is Boom Baru port on the bank of the Musi, within the city of Palembang itself. There is no ferry terminal on the coast here: Palembang is a river port, and it is around 108 kilometres to the mouth of the Musi. The fast ferry therefore runs a long way downstream before it reaches open water. Anyone measuring the journey time as the crow flies will get it wrong.

Alongside freight handling, Boom Baru deals with the city's passenger traffic, and the route to Muntok is the most frequent of them. Express Bahari has an office in Palembang at Jalan Rajawali 8B in the 9 Ilir quarter, Ilir Timur II district, and one on the other side at Jalan Jenderal Sudirman in Muntok.

Check-in

Express Bahari sails from Palembang on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with departure at 7:30. The operator does not publish a fixed check-in deadline. So do not rely on a tight margin; ask when you book what time you need to be at the port.
