Rossaveel ferry port, Ros a Mhíl in Irish, lies in Connemara on the west coast of County Galway. It is the main port of departure for the Aran Islands: from here you can reach Inishmore, Inisheer and Inishmaan. Together the services run up to 17 departures a day, and the crossings take between 45 minutes and an hour. The port is served by Aran Island Ferries. Compared with sailing from Galway you save a good hour at sea, but you first have to drive out into Connemara.
Getting there and the terminal
The address is Ros a Mhil Pier, Connemara, Co. Galway, H91 W9K1. The operator gives the distance as 37 kilometres west of Galway city centre, about an hour's drive along the Wild Atlantic Way. There is a paying car park at the pier where you can also leave the car overnight, and an office of the operator staffed from 9 am to 6 pm. Without your own vehicle you take the shuttle bus, which starts at Victoria Place in Galway; be there at least 20 minutes before the bus is due to leave. The operator gives no check-in deadline for the ferries themselves.
