- Shimonoseki Port International Terminal, Higashi-Yamato-cho 1-10-60
The ferry port of Shimonoseki lies at the western tip of the Japanese main island of Honshu. From here you can reach Busan in South Korea. Ferries leave up to 2 times a day. The crossing takes around 10.75 hours. The port is served by Pukwan Ferry.
Getting there and the terminal
Passengers are handled at the Shimonoseki Port International Terminal, Higashi-Yamato-cho 1-10-60. From the east exit of JR Shimonoseki station the operator gives about a seven-minute walk along a raised walkway that runs between the wedding hall and the shopping centre straight into the second floor of the terminal. The check-in desks are there too. The terminal has its own car park with no reservation, limited to vehicles up to 5.0 metres long, 2.0 metres wide, 2.2 metres high and 1 tonne; you get a discount voucher at check-in.
Check-in
The desks open at 3pm. For foot passengers check-in ends at 6pm, for travellers with a vehicle as early as 3:30pm. After that comes exit control, so keep your passport to hand. If you are taking a car across, take the tighter deadline seriously: it leaves only half an hour.
