Shinmoji ferry port lies in the Moji ward of Kitakyushu on the northern tip of Kyushu and is the island's overnight ferry port. From here you can reach Osaka, Kobe and Yokosuka. Together the services run up to 10 departures a day, and crossings take between 12.5 and 20.75 hours. The port is served by Hankyu Ferry, Meimon Taiyo Ferry and Tokyo Kyusyu Ferry.
Getting there and the terminal
The Hankyu Ferry terminal has the address Shinmoji-kita 1-1 in Moji ward. By car from the direction of Fukuoka you take the Shinmoji exit and around three kilometres of prefectural road 71, from Honshu the Moji exit and about five kilometres of prefectural road 25, and from the city expressway the Ohsato exit and a good six kilometres of prefectural road 71. Watch the names carefully: there are three junctions with Moji in them. Without a car you take the free shuttle bus from the JR stations Kokura and Moji; by taxi it is around 15 minutes from Moji station. The terminal has a paid car park with 98 spaces, and the first hour is free.
Check-in
Hankyu Ferry requires vehicles to be at the terminal no later than 60 minutes before departure. Lowered cars and fuel cell vehicles have to be there 90 minutes ahead.
