Surat Thani's town berth lies on the lower Tapi at Bang Kung, shortly before the river reaches the Gulf of Thailand, and is called Tapee Pier. From here you can reach four destinations, among them Koh Samui, Ko Phangan and Koh Tao. Together the connections add up to as many as 73 departures a day, and crossings take between 3 and 4 hours. The port is served by Lomprayah High Speed Ferries, Raja Ferry and Seatran Ferry.
Getting there and the terminal
Lomprayah keeps an office at Tapee Pier at 88 Moo 3, Surat-Paknam, Bang Kung, Amphoe Mueang Surat Thani, open from 8am to 5pm. More important than the address, though, is telling the departure points apart: the mainland has two, and they lie far apart. Besides Tapee Pier in town, Lomprayah runs a second branch at Don Sak Pier (Laem Thuat, Wanghin Road, Amphoe Don Sak), and Raja Ferry names Don Sak as its mainland port. So check which pier is on your ticket before you set off, and plan your journey there accordingly.
