The ferry port of Tarifa is in Andalusia at the southernmost point of the Iberian peninsula and has exactly one destination: Tangier. There are up to 34 sailings a day and the crossing takes around an hour. The port is served by Africa Morocco Link and Balearia. It is the shortest ferry link between Europe and North Africa.

Getting there and the terminal

The terminal at Tarifa serves the Morocco route only, and specifically the Port de Tanger Ville. That is the decisive difference from the sailings out of Algeciras: according to the Tangier port authority you land in the middle of the city, close to the old medina, and need no onward transfer on the far shore.

The region's second port, Tanger Med, lies well outside the city, in the Ksar El Majaz free zone in Fahs Anjra province. From western Tangier it is 54 kilometres and around 30 minutes' drive, from the eastern edge of the city 35 kilometres and about 20 minutes. So if you book a ticket to Tangier, look carefully at which of the two ports it names: the journey between them costs a good half hour and a taxi fare.
