The ferry port of Toshima is on Toshima in Japan. From here you can reach 5 destinations, among them Tokyo, Izu Oshima and Kozushima. Together the services add up to as many as 11 departures a day. Crossings take between 30 minutes and 2.5 hours. The port is served by Tokai Kisen.

Getting there and the terminal

Toshima has exactly one harbour, Toshima-ko, and the town itself says plainly what awaits you there: no buses, no taxis, no hire bicycles. To get any further you walk or hire a vehicle from your guesthouse. The island measures around eight kilometres around, and the town reckons on two to two and a half hours for the circuit. The walk from the quay into the village is correspondingly short.

The second point weighs heavier: whether the ship calls at all is decided by the sea. The town points out explicitly that a clear sky says nothing about the swell and that cancellations come at short notice. So checking Tokai Kisen's operating notices is part of preparing for the trip. The fast jet boats also run seasonally, and in winter that part of the service is suspended.

Check-in

Tokai Kisen wants check-in completed no later than 15 minutes before the ship sails. After that your reservation may lapse. So redeem your ticket at the counter early and do not count on turning up just before the lines are cast off.
