- Atami Port Boarding Terminal
The ferry port of Atami lies on Honshū in Japan, on the coast of the hot-spring town of the same name. From here you can reach Izu Ōshima, the largest and closest of the Izu Islands. The timetable shows up to 2 departures a day, and the crossing takes around 45 minutes. The port is served by Tokai Kisen.
Getting there and the terminal
Boarding is at the Atami Port Boarding Terminal. Bus route 7 takes you there from Atami station, and Tokai Kisen reckons on about 15 minutes; by taxi it is around 10 minutes in normal conditions. Both figures assume clear roads. In heavy traffic the same short trip can take up to 40 minutes by bus or by taxi, which is why the operator explicitly advises taking an earlier bus than the pure journey time suggests.
If you come by car, there are six municipal car parks at the port; the first sixteen hours are charged in half-hour units, after that by the hour. Coaches may only use the municipal east car park. Tokai Kisen gives no fixed check-in deadline for Atami; the terminal information desk is staffed from 8am to 5pm.
