The ferry port of Ciutadella lies in the west of Menorca and links the old island capital with Mallorca, mainland Spain and southern France. The short route to Alcudia is the busiest, joined by Barcelona and, seasonally, Toulon. Together the routes add up to as many as 14.5 departures a day. Crossings take between 1.25 and 14.5 hours. The port is served by Balearia, Corsica Ferries, Grandi Navi Veloci and Menorca Lines.

Getting there and the terminal

The ferries do not berth in the narrow natural harbour below the old town but in the outer port of Son Blanc to the south. The address is Avinguda de Son Blanc, 07760 Ciutadella de Menorca; set your sat nav for the commercial port, not the town harbour. Corsica Ferries gives the same address for its Toulon sailings. At the terminal there are the Estación Marítima, car parks and a taxi rank, plus bars and cafeterias; the site is run by the Balearic port authority PortsIB.

Check-in

The clearest times come from Menorca Lines for the route to Alcúdia: on foot you must be at the ship 30 minutes before departure if you already have your boarding pass, otherwise at least 60 minutes. With a vehicle it is 60 minutes provided the boarding passes for passenger and vehicle are in hand, otherwise 90 minutes. For the long crossings to Barcelona and Toulon you should allow more time.
