At more than five kilometres long, the harbour counts as one of the deepest natural harbours in the world and has strategic importance in the western Mediterranean. Ferries run from the ferry port all year round to Barcelona and Valencia on the Spanish mainland and to Palma and Alcudia on Mallorca.
