- Sado-Kisen-Terminal Hafen Naoetsu, Minatomachi 1-9-1, Joetsu, Praefektur Niigata
The ferry port of Naoetsu lies on Honshu in Japan. From here you can reach Ogi on the island of Sado. Ferries leave up to 4 times a day and the crossing takes around 2.75 hours. The port is served by Sado Kisen.
Getting there and the terminal
The terminal stands at Minatomachi 1-9-1 in Jōetsu, Niigata Prefecture. By car you are there in about ten minutes from the Jōetsu IC motorway exit. Arriving by train, you get off at the Jōetsu-Myōkō shinkansen station; bus and taxi each take around 30 minutes from there to the port. Naoetsu port has a paid surface car park charged by the hour. Motorcycles and vehicles from six metres in length may not be parked there, so those need another solution.
Check-in
Sado Kisen asks travellers with a vehicle to be at the port no later than one hour before departure and to complete check-in by 30 minutes before departure; loading starts 30 to 40 minutes before departure. Foot passengers with a digital ticket manage with 10 to 20 minutes in hand. If you buy at the desk or at a machine, allow 30 to 40 minutes. The gate to the ship opens 15 to 20 minutes before departure.
