Almost all traffic runs through the Baltic ports of Travemünde, Rostock, Kiel, Puttgarden and Sassnitz.

Ferries to Cuxhaven

From Cuxhaven the operator Reederei Cassen Eils sails to the island of Neuwerk, from April to October and taking around two hours. Departures are from the Alte Liebe.

The ferry port of Kiel lies on the Baltic Sea about 90 kilometres north of Hamburg and is one of Germany's most important ports for international passenger traffic. Ferries run from here to Gothenburg, Oslo and Klaipėda, with regular connections to Norway, Sweden and Lithuania.

Ferries to Neuwerk

Neuwerk is served from Cuxhaven between April and October. The crossing with the operator Reederei Cassen Eils takes around two hours and depends on the tide.

Puttgarden lies at the northern end of the island of Fehmarn. The place is known above all for its ferry link to the Danish town of Rødby, but it has more to offer: a floating department store, the oldest church on Fehmarn and a highlight for birdwatchers, as Puttgarden lies on the migration route of the cranes flying from Europe to Scandinavia. That is why the ferry route from Puttgarden to Rødby is also called the "Vogelfluglinie", the bird flight line.

The ferry port of Rostock lies in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on the Baltic coast, about twelve kilometres from the city centre. It is the largest port in Germany and has grown into one of the most important in Europe; ferries run from here to Trelleborg and Gedser and seasonally to Klaipeda.

Sassnitz ferry port lies on the island of Rügen in north-eastern Germany and, as the country's easternmost deep-water port, is an important hub for ferry services across the Baltic Sea. Ferries run regularly from here to Bornholm in Denmark, making the port a gateway to Scandinavia, central Europe and the Baltic states.
